Excessive sweating: causes and ways to solve this problem. Hyperhidrosis
Hyperhidrosis can occur as a result of disorders in the work of certain organs, infectious diseases, neurological disorders, and stressful conditions.
Some people sweat like a river. The problem is especially aggravated in summer. What causes it and how to deal with it?
– Normally, sweating increases in hot weather, during intense physical activity, as well as during stress – and this is a normal reaction, needed by the body for thermoregulation, – says dermatologist Zhanna Prykhodko. — With hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), the sweat glands work too intensively. This condition can be the result of disorders in the work of certain organs (most often endocrine), infectious diseases, neurological disorders, stressful conditions, etc. It is important to find out the root cause of such hyperhidrosis in time and treat the underlying disease.
I had a thirty-year-old patient for whom hyperhidrosis became the cause of personal drama: divorce from her husband, loss of job. Because of this, of course, the young pretty woman was under a lot of stress, which increased the excessive sweating. A closed circle was formed. But we managed. The patient underwent an examination by an endocrinologist, a course of treatment for an endocrine problem that excessively stimulated the sweat glands. The effect was fixed with special injections that block the arrival of nerve impulses to the sweat glands.
– Excessive sweating is only stains on clothes, wet palms and sweaty face, unpleasant smell? Can other problems develop on the background of hyperhidrosis?
– As for the pungent smell, the sweat itself does not have it. The reason for its appearance is too active life activity of bacteria and fungi. Normally, they are always on the skin, but with hyperhidrosis, they increase in number, so there is a risk of fungal lesions, the appearance of abscesses, the development of eczema, etc.
— Tell me, please, do deodorants and antiperspirants help with hyperhidrosis?
— They are effective only in case of local hyperhidrosis: in the area of the armpits, on the feet. Some of them contain antibacterial substances that suppress the microflora of the skin, respectively, slowing down the intensity of the appearance of a strong odor. Antiperspirants with aluminum and zinc salts reduce the excretory ducts of the sweat glands, weaken the process of sweating itself. But too frequent use of these cosmetics can disrupt the balance of microorganisms, the normal functioning of the sebaceous glands, and provoke inflammatory processes. You should not treat the skin with deodorant more often than once every 8 hours.
And more. Clothing made of synthetic fabrics contributes to sweating. Therefore, in the summer, preference should be given to things made of natural fabrics – linen, cotton. Alcoholic beverages and overly spicy foods also contribute to increased sweating.
