All in pink bubble. contact dermatitis

Bathing in waterlogged bodies of water threatens with dermatitis

You have warmed up under the sun – that’s what it feels like to swim in a cool pond. It is muddy, but do not hold back and dive. And after a few minutes, the whole body is covered with pink blisters, the skin itches…

– Most often, this is how contact dermatitis manifests itself, – explains Zhanna Prykhodko, a dermatologist.

– Chemical substances dissolved in water, plant pollen accumulated in stagnant water can be the main provocateurs of such a reaction.

Urticaria can be caused by 1 touch of plants growing in the pond, water micro-organisms. In this case, the rash is very burning and itchy.

Most often, children react this way to swimming in ponds: their skin is more delicate, and their immune system is not sufficiently formed. Adults prone to allergies are also at risk.

– Is it enough to simply take a shower to make the symptoms go away?

You should definitely take a shower. And preferably immediately after bathing. Wash again at home. And not with aromatic gel, but with soft soap from the children’s series. Then apply a soothing lotion or cream to the affected skin. As a rule, the symptoms of contact dermatitis disappear the next day.

But if they increase, and pustules appear in the place of the blisters, the skin turns red, the body temperature rises, consult a doctor immediately.

– What can this indicate?

– About the fact that the skin was affected by a specific infection (for example, staphylococcus). It could happen that the causative agent joined the inflammatory process that was caused by dermatitis.

Pus and temperature are clear indications that the infectious process is progressing. In this case, soothing creams are not enough, antimicrobial drugs, antibiotics may be needed. And this should be done according to a clear scheme, according to the appointment of a specialist.
